Creative Memorial Ideas to Help Remember Your Loved One

Creative Memorial Ideas to Help Remember Your Loved One

Every person's life is unique and special, which means the memorial funeral service of a loved one needs to be as individual as the person being remembered. A creative approach to a memorial will transform a potentially formal service into a more relaxed and joyous celebration of the person's life.

Five Ideas For a Creative Memorial Service

Personalized Refreshments. If the pleasures of eating and drinking were a significant part of the decreased joys in life, why not make their Epicurean nature a major part of the memorial service? Food is a great way to recall happy memories of the departed. Consider including the person's favorite snack, cocktail or go all out and serve a complete buffet of all their favorites. Pass out favorite recipes so everyone can prepare the dish at home.

Custom Decorations. The décor for most memorial services are nice, but never seem to capture the essence of the deceased. Think about using decorations which reflect the hobbies and interests of the person. Even if you are unable to redecorate the space completely, almost everyone has a favorite painting or a cherished collection which can easily be displayed in the funeral home.

Creative Keepsakes. A small keepsake or memento is a wonderful opportunity for guests to bring home something meaningful to help them remember their loved one.

Sharing Memories. A person can live on in the stories that their friends and family members tell. Encourage the sharing of stories and anecdotes about the deceased by sharing photos, personal memorabilia and giving loved ones a chance to write down a favorite experience they had with the person on a card and then let everyone read them. Depending on the circumstance of the person's passing, you may want to play a game about who knows the most about the deceased's life.

Creative Keepsakes. A small keepsake or memento is a wonderful opportunity for guests to bring home something meaningful to help them remember their loved one. Try to come up with a creative keepsake which represents the person. You may want to distribute a favorite book, a devotional candle holder or even a seedling of the deceased's favorite flower or plant.

The Final Sendoff. Cap off the memorial service with a unique activity. Depending on the preferences of the deceased, you may want to incorporate a fireworks show or a giant bonfire. Perhaps something a bit more subdued like joining hands in a circle and staring up at the stars while listening to the person's favorite song. Whatever you choose, make sure it is a reflection of the person whom all of you have come together to remember.
